On a cold night in a small-town mortuary, a solitary Ghassal (a person who ritually washes the dead in Islamic tradition) is assigned to prepare the body of a man who destroyed his life years ago — the same man who cunningly took away his wife and infant daughter. As he washes the corpse, haunting memories return: of prison, overwhelming debt, and the family he lost. Now, torn between religious duty and the desire for revenge, he faces a haunting question: Can the dead ever be forgiven?

Writer Statement

“HANOUT explores the human soul at its most fragile point — the moment it must choose between forgiveness and revenge. The screenplay follows a Ghassal who confronts a corpse tied to his own past, drawing him into an intimate moral and emotional conflict. For me, HANOUT is ultimately about the breath that guides us: the breath of mercy or the breath of vengeance — and the cost of choosing either one.”
